Divestitures: Expanding Your Tool Kit for Business Excellence
By Jim Jeffries, Chairman of the M&A Leadership Council

The “Best of Breed” companies are constantly evolving in response to market changes and competitive challenges. A key part of the constant repositioning of the business for success is making strategic acquisitions, but just as important is reassessing their existing portfolio of businesses and making smart  decisions regarding divestitures and carve-outs. Every company making acquisitions will also be making a divestiture at some point. This is why it is so important that companies build their in-house capabilities for divestitures in the same way that they have (hopefully) been doing with mergers and acquistions.

Divestitures are not reverse acquisitions. In many ways they are more complex, often having a longer timeframe and requiring additional skills, capabilities and approaches than in a traditional M&A – as anyone who has made divestments can readily attest. I encourage you to join us in San Diego, April 16-18, for The Art of M&A Divestitures and Carve-OutsSM. This course consistently gets rave reviews from attendees not only for the quality of the presenters and the depth of the content, but also for the knowledge and experiences shared by fellow attendees.

I hope to see you there. In the interim, enjoy today's newsletter.
