Practices, Programs and Resources - Oversight for the M&A Community

Chairman's Message, October 2015
by Jim Jeffries, Chairman, M&A Leadership Council

There is no question today that growth by acquisitions has become a business within our businesses.  There is no question that well executed M&A can contribute more to corporate value than many of the portfolio products or services delivered on a day-to-day basis.  The M&A Leadership Council believes that the M&A community has now accumulated a tremendous amount of experience and developed volumes of best-practice expertise from training, publications, various affiliations and real-world experience.

This is why I am very proud to announce that the Council is participating in the creation of the Board of M&A Standards (BMAS).  The newly formed Board of M&A Standards is a collection of M&A luminaries, corporate practitioners and professional service providers with significant experience and credentials of their own.

The Board of M&A Standards includes M&A leaders from Nokia, American Family Insurance, Dell, World Fuel Services, BMO Financial, McKinsey, American Express, McKesson, Mercer, Tesoro and Baker & McKenzie.  Their experiences cover the entire M&A life cycle from Strategy through Integration.  Beginning on January 1, 2016, the Board of M&A Standards will take its place as the sanctioning body for all things M&A and become the “go-to” place for the best sources of M&A knowledge.

Today, BMAS is commencing its work by being invited to attend, review, read and endorse the various M&A-related programs, books and organizations that best contribute to the knowledge base of the M&A community.  The M&A Leadership Council is happy to say that BMAS has reviewed and endorsed several of our training programs for next year.

  • The Art of M&A Integration
  • The Art of M&A for HR Professionals
  • The Art of M&A Due Diligence

BMAS has also sanctioned the Certified M&A Specialist (CMAS) certification program we will be launching in January (more about CMAS in next month’s issue)
