On behalf of the Leadership Council’s Advisory Board, Board of Standards and our Sponsor Partners, we welcome you to help us improve the outcomes for the M&A Community.
We all know that for decades more than half of transactions fail to achieve the value promised by management. Together we must identify best practices, establish standards for training and certification and provide methods, tools and expertise to the M&A community across the globe. We seek to acquire and share the best of M&A related knowledge and experience with companies and their practitioners who look to establish internal capabilities in the M&A lifecycle, from strategy to integration and beyond.
Just as in golf, the M&A swing has many moving parts, requires knowledge of the rules and a lot of practice before you approach the first tee. You must first master the fundamentals:
• Alignment and direction
• Selecting the right club
• Right stance, take-away, turn and follow-through.
Oh, and did I mention the grip and keeping your head down and still? It can be very complex for a beginner as well as a master depending on the course you select to play.
So it is with growth by acquisitions. In most cases today, the target hasn’t been properly assessed and the skills, equipment and true knowledge of the game remain absent.
